Simple SEO for Local Businesses

So everyone wants to rank at the top of Google for their services, but unfortunately it’s not that simple. There are a lot of things that go into Google deciding who goes on top and who is on page 7. Here are a couple simple things that you can do as a business owner to help with your own website’s SEO.

First you need to figure out what your primary keywords are and make sure your website is set up with that was.If I built your website feel free to reach out and we can talk about it together. If someone else built your website you can still feel free to reach out and I will give you my thoughts and feedback. Once you have the keywords figured out, you need to get the basic keyword set up in the correct spots on the page, and that’s again something that I could help you with.

The next more advanced piece would be content matching. Basically what you would do is look at who is in the top three spots in search results for your keyword and figure out how many words they have on their page. Then you can average those numbers of words and compare that to what you have. You want to be equal to, or just slightly over that average. This may mean that you need to write some content that we could then add to the appropriate page.

The next thing that can help with SEO is links (sometimes call backlinks) to your website. Now this can be messed up quite easily, but there are some simple things you can do that are fairly safe. The first one would be Citations. Citations would be online business directories that list your business name, address, phone number, and website Etc. I can send you a list of these to set up on your own at no charge.Next would be links from either websites that are related to your physical location, or websites that are related to your industry. One of the easiest ways would be some kind of sponsorship or donation link. Basically you can find Charities or nonprofits or sports teams in your area and see if they have a section on their website where they list their sponsors and supporters, and if they linked to that sponsor or supporters website. You can then contact them and ask if you were to make a donation if they would put the link to your business website. Some of these donations could be quite small but valuable to them, and valuable to you for a backlink.

So those are a couple of simple free things that you could do to help your SEO and depending on the level of competition in an industry that might be all it takes to get to the top of the search results. If you need help you on this please feel free to reach out.
